Predict the occurrence of left ventricular remodeling (LVR) 6 months after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by measuring the concentration of extracellular vesicles (EVs) with a Micro-PLUS flow cytometer

According to Flachskampf et al. (2011), about 30% of patients who suffered from myocardial infarction developed left ventricular remodeling in a matter of weeks or months [1]. Ventricular remodeling is defined by an increase in both ventricular end-systolic and end-diastolic volume and at a high risk of ventricular dysfunction that leads to cardiovascular death [2]. Up-to-date, various biomarkers have been proposed, but none of them is being applied in routine clinical settings due to their low sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing LVR. Recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) is in the limelight for the next generation of LVR risk assessment after AMI. By leveraging the high throughput format of Apogee A60-Micro-PLUS flow cytometer to determine EVs concentrations from the different cellular origins, LVR is found to be significantly associated with decreased concentration of EVs from endothelial cells, erythrocytes, and platelets [3]. A further collection of scientific evidence will facilitate translating sciences from laboratory to clinic while the application of Apogee A60-Micro-PLUS flow cytometer in identifying EVs may open a new era in clinical diagnosis.
